Now that's social distancing...

Last Leg to return – with hosts 17,000km apart

Adam Hills is to host the next series of The Last Leg from his garage in Melbourne.

Four new episodes are to air on Channel 4 in May, made under social distancing rules. But forget two metres, Hills  will me almost 17,000 km away from Josh Widdicombe in London and Alex Brooker in Huddersfield.

Hills, who had travelled to Australia to take part in the since-cancelled Melbourne International Comedy Festival, told Australian website TV Tonight: ‘It looks like our garage is going to be taken over and become a mini TV studio. And there might have to be a couple of cameras throughout the house as well.

‘The other thing is, I’m going to have to write a TV show with people who are in London. So the only way I can do that is if we get on a Zoom session every night from about 8pm  till midnight, because that’s morning their time.’

The show will continue to air live, and feature guests dialling in from their homes.

Ian Katz, Channel 4’s director of programmes at Channel 4 said, ‘Adam, Josh and Alex will surely be setting a new record for the most socially distanced entertainment show. What can possibly go wrong?’

And Phil Harris, the broadcaster’s head of entertainment  added: ‘The smartness, speed and adaptability of them and the team to get this show up and running has been incredible, and we can’t wait to have them back on Friday nights.’

The last series ended on March 20, with the final episode filmed in the usual studio – but without the studio audience for the first time.

The Last Leg: Locked Down Under begins at 10pm on Channel 4 on Friday  May 8.
