How Jack Whitehall cost his parents 'vomit money'

Mum Hilary shares an embarrassing story

comedyJack Whitehall’s mum Hilary has revealed how she once had to pay a taxi driver £60 to clean up after her son was sick in the cab.

The comic was in his early 20s and living at home when the embarrassing  incident happened.

And Hilary was happy to share the shame  when she appeared on the Waitrose podcast Dish this week.

She told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett: ‘We'd gone to bed, we were asleep, fast asleep, it was about 2am, doorbell goes, Immediately you think, "who’s died?"

‘[I] race down the stairs in the dressing gown, and there's Jack, who falls through the door, falls past me, goes up the stairs, and I think, okay, Jack's back, so I shut the door, and I go back to bed.

‘Five minutes later, the doorbell goes again. I think, okay, so I go back downstairs and there's an irate taxi driver. And he said, "He said he was coming in for money." I said, "Okay…"

‘He said, "Is he getting the money?" I said, "I very much doubt it. How much does he owe you?" And he said, "Oh, £120… that's what he owes me. I need that money. Because I ain't going and I'll call the police if you don’t."

‘I said, "Okay, fine, I don't have £120 so I'm going to have to go to the cashpoint."

So she went upstairs to get dressed and found Jack ‘literally passed out, so I put him in the recovery position’ before driving down the road to get the money out.

She then queried the £120 bill again, and the driver told her: ‘ ‘Well, it's sixty quid ‘cause I've brought him from Enfield… there's the £60 vomit money.’

Hilary was on the show with husband Michael, partly to promote their own podcast, The Wittering Whitehalls.
