© Debbie Ellis Lucy Beaumont: I cheated to win a TV competition
...and I lied to Chris Evans about it
Lucy Beaumont has revealed that she lied to Chris Evans on live TV to win a competition.
The comedian said that when she was ten, The Big Breakfast ran a drawing competition to design a fountain, with the promise that the winning child’s sketch would be made
But her mum, who had art school training, entered on her behalf – and won.
Speaking to The Times today, Beaumont said: ‘She made me go on national TV and pretend it was mine. She was squeezing my hand in the green room, saying, "Don’t say anything or I’ll kill you!"
‘We went to London, Chris Evans unveiled this fountain with a brass band playing, and right at the end my mum admitted: "Oh, I helped a bit."
‘When I got back to school, everyone thought I was a prodigy and pulled me out of lessons to help other classes with their art.’
The prize also included a family hotel stay in London, the comic has previously revealed.
In her Q&A today, the Celebrity Traitors contestant also told how the council in her Hull hometown named one to its snow gritters after her.
‘I went to see it, and the driver didn’t know who I was,’ she said. ‘That brought me back down to earth.'
