Animal rights group Peta offers to buy Chicken Shop Date

'So the chickens can be the date, not the dinner'

comedyAnimal rights group Peta has offered to buy the rights to Chicken Shop Date from Amelia Dimoldenberg – so they can make a new version where the chickens would be the dates, not the dinner.

The charity has written to the content creator after she yesterday  announced that she was ending her hit YouTube series after 12 years.

In the letter, Peta UK vice-president of programmes Elisa Allen, told her: ‘For years, chickens have been at the heart of the show – but as wings, nuggets, and other body parts on the table. It’s time to turn the tables and let viewers meet the birds themselves.

‘Our remake would see famous faces go on dates with rescued chickens at a sanctuary, getting to know their unique personalities and discovering just how clever, curious, and charming they can be.

‘Chicken Shop Date has always been about finding connection in unlikely places. We’d love to give that idea a new twist – helping viewers fall for chickens and see why these sensitive birds deserve to be left in peace, not pieces.

‘And, of course, we’d love you to stay involved. Together, we could give Chicken Shop Date a fitting new chapter – one that finally puts chickens in the spotlight rather than on the menu. What do you say, fancy one last date?’

Our image above – created with the aid of AI – shows how it most certainly won’t look.

Peta says chickens form complex social relationships, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do – and say that in the meat industry, ‘they’re bred to grow so unnaturally large that many suffer from painful leg deformities, heart problems, and other debilitating conditions’.
