Amy Gledhill becomes a Mind patron

'To help break down stigma around mental health'

Amy Gledhill has been appointed as the first patron of Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, a role the charity hopes will help break down stigma around mental health.

It said the Hull-born comedian’s openness about the topic made her an ideal choice for the role

‘We wanted our first patron to be someone who truly understands the power of talking, laughing, listening and being unapologetically themselves,’ said Emma Dallimore, chief executive of Hull and East Yorkshire Mind. ‘Amy embodies all of those things and so much more. She has a way of turning even the most chaotic parts of life into something people can connect with – not just because it's funny, but because it's real.’

Gledhill won the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award for best show in 2024 while her TV work includes appearances in Alma's Not Normal, Hullraisers and Would I Lie To You?

As patron, Gledhill will support the charity's campaigns and events aimed at encouraging people to seek help earlier and talk more openly about mental health.

‘Becoming patron of Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is an absolute honour,’ she said. ‘I've always believed that supporting your mental health is as important as supporting Hull City – and in both cases, sometimes you really need someone to lean on.

‘If I can help even one person feel a bit less alone by talking about the tough stuff (and maybe making them laugh along the way), then I'm all in.’

The charity said it hoped Gledhill's involvement would increase awareness of mental health services across the region and help make conversations about wellbeing more commonplace.
