First memoir for The Daily Tism writer

Laura Richmond's book about having undiagnosed autism

Laura Richmond, a writer on satirical news website The Daily Tism, is publishing her first memoir.

All My Worldly Joy chronicles the writer’s experiences of the UK mental health system as an undiagnosed autistic girl, then woman – before the birth of her son sparked a sequence of events that would change everything.

Richmond joined The Daily Tism – which focusses on spoof news stories from a neurodiverse perspective – after co-founder Sara Gibbs read a review copy of the autobiography last year.

Gibbs said: ‘Was it easy explaining to Laura that her heartfelt, moving and important memoir about mental health and childbirth trauma was actually hysterical? No. But someone had to break the news to her."

'For such difficult subject matter, it’s an astoundingly easy read, thanks to Laura’s warm, hilarious and soul-baring writing style…  You’ll want to reach into the pages, give her a big hug and tell her she’s wonderful.

‘All My Worldly Joy is, and I do not say this lightly, a masterpiece. If it’s not an instant bestseller, I will personally flip a table."

Richmond’s semi-autobiographical comedy pieces on  The Daily Tism include ‘Autistic woman worried her mugs have realised she has a favourite’ and ‘"What if I’m not really autistic?" asks world’s most obviously autistic woman, constantly.’ She has recently joined the writers’ room for It’s A Superpower, the website’s upcoming audio sitcom.

All My Worldly Joy was scheduled for publication by Unbound, later Boundless, but was left in limbo after the publisher went into administration.

The memoir was later acquired by Wilton Square Books and will be published on Thursday.

All My Worldly Joy  is available from Amazon priced £16.47 in hardback – or from uk.bookshop.org, below, which supports independent bookstores.
