Friends launch crowdfunder for Aussie stand-up's funeral

Australian sex worker turned stand-up comedian Bella Green has died aged 38.

The news was shared by friends who set up a crowdfunding page for the £18,000 her funeral will cost.

On it, they paid amusing tribute to the comic,  who created the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival show Bella Green Is Charging For It all about her often taboo job. The show went on to win a best comedy award at the Adelaide Fringe in 2020, and spawned the  memoir Happy Endings.

The page reads: ‘Beloved Bella departed on 25 July, 2023. Writer, comedian, massive hooker, public toilet aficionado, and deeply cherished friend, Bella leaves behind a large community of grievers whose lives were impacted by all that she was and all that she created. And certainly, somewhere, a few tearful johns who will never, ever forget that blowie.’

The cause of death has not been revealed.
