Stand-up facing legal action from estranged husband for joking about him

Comedians have raised more than £13,000  to help fellow stand-up Louise Reay fight a legal case launched by her estranged husband for talking about him on stage.

In January, Reay  was served with defamation, privacy and data protection proceedings over her comedy show, which is being taken as an assault on her freedom of speech.

The cash towards her legal fees was raised at a fundraiser called Ex Appeal at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End tonight.

The comedians who performed in the gala included Sofie Hagen, Kiri Pritchard- McLean, Suzi Ruffell, Sara Pascoe, Steen Raskopoulos, Aisling Bea, Ed Gamble, Nish Kumar, David O’Doherty, Josh Widdicombe, Brett Goldstein, Lolly Adefope and Rachel Parris
