Radio show for comic Steffen Peddie

New contract with BBC Newcastle

Comic Steffen Peddie is to host a new radio show on BBC Newcastle.

He will present the late-night show on Sunday and Monday from the end of July.

Peddie – a former wrestler who played Big Keith in the BBC Two sitcom Hebburn – takes over Gary Philipson, who has moved to BBC Tees.

BBC Newcastle’s managing editor Doug Morris told trade website Radio Today that the comic ‘will bring fun, character and fantastic music to the late-night show.’

Fellow comic Alfie Joey is the breakfast host on the same station, and as part of today’s shuffle it was announced that he will be permanently joined by Anna Foster, who has been standing in as co-host for the past eight months to cover maternity leave.

BBC Newcastle is currently the most listened-to BBC local radio station outside London.
