Red Dwarf co-creator Rob Grant left his wife more than £930,000 in his will, probate records reveal

The comedy writer, who died suddenly in February at the age of 70, left Kathryn Grant a net estate in the UK valued at £932,534 after debts and expenses were settled.

Grant also owned property in Spain, which will be dealt with under another will, The Sun reports.

He was born in Salford in 1955 and met writing partner Doug Naylor at Chetham’s School in Manchester – and after contributing to a number of comedy shows, including Spitting Image, created Red Dwarf, which first aired on BBC Two in 1988.

The show attracted more than eight million viewers at its peak and ran on BBC Two until 1999, before being revived by Dave a decade later.

Grant broke up the writing partnership after series six, calling the decision as being ‘basically musical differences’, and adding that he ‘didn't want Red Dwarf to be the only thing on [his] tombstone.’

The pair were embroiled in a long-running legal dispute over the rights to the sci-fi comedy, which was resolved in 2023.

A prequel novel, Red Dwarf: Titan, co-written with Andrew Marshall, was published posthumously.
