Sir Lenny Henry to play Latitude

Ross Noble, Jen Brister and Jack Dee all return too

Sir Lenny Henry is to perform at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk this summer – his only UK music festival performance of the year.

The 66-year-old will headline the festival's comedy arena alongside Ross Noble, Jen Brister and Jack Dee, it has been announced today.

It comes as the star embarks on his first stand-up tour in 17 years, with Still At Large, reflecting on five decades in entertainment, from his early days in working men's clubs to playing an elf in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

‘I’m delighted to be bringing Still At Large to Latitude for their 20th anniversary, and it’s the only music festival I'll be performing at this year, so this really is a special one,’ Sir Lenny said. ‘This show is my celebration of five decades in this business. I'll be sharing stories about the characters I've played, the people I've met, and the moments that have stuck with me from The Lenny Henry Show and Chef! to Othello and everything in between.’

Noble created one of Latitude's most memorable moments in 2008 when he led 3,000 people in a conga line across the festival site to a vegan food stall, where the crowd chanted for sausage rolls before he crowd-surfed to safety.

Brister, who was the very first act to perform at the first Latitude in 2006, returns as a headline act two decades later. ‘I’m thrilled to be headlining its 20th anniversary,’ she said.

Dee, is returning to the festival after performing at its 10th anniversary in 2015. He said: ‘As always at my shows, the dress code is formal and I very much hope that the audience will observe this.

‘If you're simply planning on drinking cider and getting stoned for three days, then instead I suggest that you attend one of the many pop concerts that will be available for people like you.’

The wider comedy lineup includes David O'Doherty, Josie Long, Marcus Brigstocke and Rosie Jones, alongside rising stars such as Kyla Cobbler, who has built a following of more than 825,000 on Instagram

Phil Ellis, fresh from appearing in series 20 of Taskmaster, and Fatiha El-Ghorri, a breakout star of series 19, also join the bill. And the Chortle Student Comedy Award finalists will also appear on the Comedy Arena stage.

The other names announced today are Scott Bennett, Flo & Joan, Blank Peng, Chloe Petts, Josh Baulf, Maia Tassalini, Matt Bragg, Thomas Green, The Comedy Store Players and So You Think You're Funny? Winner Madeleine Brettingham

Sponsored by Klarna, Latitude takes place at Henham Park in Suffolk from July 23 to 26 with music headliners including  David Byrne, Lewis Capaldi and Teddy Swims. More acts are to be announced and tickets are on sale now.
