Comedian to buy his own Scottish castle in new TV series
Alan Carr is to buy and run a Scottish castle, with his efforts documented in a new TV series.
The comic starts filming the programme, provisionally titled Castle Man, for US streamer Hulu today.
He said: ‘Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle.
‘Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn 50, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!’
The commission comes after Carr won Celebrity Traitors in another Scottish Castle, while the show’s working title takes its cue from his former talk show, Chatty Man.
Carr, who turns 50 in June, has previously done up properties in Sicily and Corfu with his pal Amanda Holden for BBC TV series. This week, the comic revealed that they had been asked to host Strictly Come Dancing together now Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly have stepped down – but turned down the offer.
Castle Man is being made by Expectation, the production company behind Clarkson’s Farm and Alma’s Not Normal.
Its description says: ‘With Alan’s 50th birthday fast approaching, he finds himself at a moment of reckoning, taking stock of where he is and where he wants to be. He has long dreamed of owning a grand château, but after a transformative and iconic stay at The Traitor’s castle, that fantasy will now become a reality – or will it? He doesn’t just want to visit a castle, he wants to build a life in one, a leap of faith driven entirely by Alan himself.’
