Who might win the biggest award in comedy 2024?

NextUp long list announced

The long list for the literal biggest prize in comedy – a 2m inflatable trophy – has been announced.

Organised by streaming service NextUp, the list of contenders for the best show at the Edinburgh Fringe has been compiled from the votes of subscribers and a panel of scouts.

The long-listed acts are:

Abby Wambaugh
Catherine Bohart
Chris Cantrill
Colin Hoult
Connor Burns
Dan Tiernan
Demi Adejuyigbe
Hannah Platt
Jack Skipper
Jin Hao Li
Joe Kent-Walters
John-Luke Roberts
Kate Cheka
Katie Norris
Kemah Bob
Madeleine Rowe
Marjolein Robertson
Mhairi Black
Phil Ellis

Sarah Henley,  co-founder of NextUp ,said: ‘With the overwhelming number of side-splitting shows at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, it’s no surprise that the longlist is almost as inflated as our gigantic award.

‘The two-metre inflatable behemoth will be presented on August 24, and I can’t wait as one of our crew is having to share their bed with it and I’m concerned about the HR implications.’

The winner will also receive a £500 cash prize.

NextUp subscribers can vote at  nextupcomedy.com/biggestaward before August 22.

Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
