Netflix sets a date for Chris Rock's live stand-up special

Comedian to achieve a first in March

Chris Rock’s live Netflix special will air on March 4, the streaming service has announced.

The broadcast  - the first time the platform has aired a live comedy show – will come almost a year since Rock was slapped on stage at the Oscars by Will Smith.

It will be beamed from Baltimore, Maryland at 10pm local time, which equates to 3am UK time.

The show, entitled Selective Outrage  will be  Rock’s second Netflix special after Tamborine in 2018.

While on tour this year, Rock promised that he would discuss more about his Oscars experience on the Netflix special, joking that he wanted to keep any comments exclusive to his big-money deal.

In an announcement video, released on Christmas Day, Rock is shown staring into a dressing mirror before someone knocks at the door and  announces: ‘Chris, they’re ready for ya.’ The camera then follows the comic as he makes his way to the stage, where he’s hit with the lights and a screaming audience.

Netflix’s vice-president of stand-up, Robbie Praw, previously called Rock ‘one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation’, adding: ‘We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honoured that Chris is carrying this torch.’
