But comic tells fans he's 'fine'

Paul Chowdhry has told how he was  attacked in central London, while still in his car.

The comedian confirmed the incident on social media yesterday in response to messages he received from a witness.

The 47-year-old posted screenshots of the messages which said: ‘Hey Paul was that you at new Oxford street? Looked like some thugs tried to attack you’ and  ‘I did send the police who were a few cars behind but I think you drove off by then.’

Chowdhry confirmed: ‘I was attacked in my car yesterday in London, I'm fine and will update you as I can.’

He received messages of support from fans and fellow comedians including Judi Love, who posted: ‘Omg hope your okay hun xxx’. Another well-wisher said: ‘Oh no Paul. I hope you're ok under the circumstances and sending virtual hugs to you.x’

Chowdhry, who is of Indian Punjabi Sikh descent, previously told Gaby Roslin’s podcast that he had been subjected to racist assaults, saying:  ‘I’ve been attacked, lots of stuff has happened to me, but you can’t let it affect you, you know it’s a part of human nature, some of the darker sides.’

The Met police told Chortle they were unable to find a crime report relating to the incident – but that may be because there are so many streets nearby to check.
