Jimmy Carr's £18,000 blunder

Jimmy Carr had to pay £18,000 to a contestant on I Literally Just Told You weeks after recording – after making a mistake with the format.

Contestants on the Channel 4 show are asked questions about what previously happened during the recording.

But one player – Eddy MacKenzie from Glasgow – was asked to give Ariana Grande's age… but could only guess at the answer as Carr had forgotten to give the information.

Three weeks later, Carr handed over the money during one of his stand-up gigs

He invited MacKenzie on to the stage to admit his blunder, saying: ‘We talked about her age but we never gave you the specific age so we messed up.

‘And when you mess up in life, you've got to own your mistakes. Here's a cheque for £18,000.’

The episode aired on Channel 4 last night, with the money coming from the show's budget.

Mackenzie was billed as a Sainsbury’s worker on the programme, but he's also a musician and comedian, who took part in the televised Scottish heat of the BBC's New Comedy Awards last year and previously made an appearance on BBC One's All Round to Mrs Brown's.
