Mel and Sue to shoot more Hitmen

Sky renews comedy for a second series

Sue Perkins  and  Mel Giedroyc's comedy Hitmen is  to return for a second series.

The pair revealed that Sky has given the go-ahead for more episodes to air next year in an interview with TV and film industry website Variety.

Giedroyc said: ‘We're very excited, because Series 2 has now been officially greenlit and we're going to film, fingers crossed, in the new year, whenever it's possible for us to do that.

Joking about how some of the exchanges between the pair would be easier to film under Covid restrictions than elaborate action sequences, she said: ‘If Sue and I quarantine together after Christmas, maybe in our caravan next to the set, then we'll be totally good to go in the van sequences.’

Perkins added: ‘The caravan is a tight squeeze… This is not an Angelina Jolie-style Winnebago, this is a 1980s British, beige caravan. But put us in that for 14 days and we will emerge hopefully good to go.’

The show is written by Joe Parham and Joe Markham, with the comedians playing Jamie and Fran, two friends who just happen to be assassins.

Giedroyc added: ‘All four of us agree that the really fun stuff in Hitmen is the friendship stuff. It's almost like our job is by the by, we could be managing a gentleman's outfitters, we could be running a fruit stall, but it's the friendship that's at the heart of it. I think that's something we're going to explore and have a little more fun with in Series two.’

When Hitmen launched on Sky in March its various screenings in the first week attracted more than  a million viewers, with the first airing doubling the average audience for its 9pm Tuesday slot.
