Jack and Michael Whitehall top Netflix's stand-up chart

Beating Kevin Hart into No2 in the UK

Jack Whitehall’s Christmas With My Father was most watched Netflix live comedy special in the UK in 2019.

The festive release topped a chart that also included new releases by Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan and Simon Amstell.

But Netflix admitted that shows released in December – such as the special Jack made with father Michael at the London Palladium – are based on predicted viewing figures, not actual ones.

Yesterday the on-demand giant revealed that Ricky Gervais’s After Life was the second-most watched series in the UK, beaten only by US fantasy show The Witcher

The streaming service also revealed that the top 10 stand-up specials of 2019 were:

  1. Jack Whitehall: Christmas with My Father
  2. Kevin Hart: Irresponsible
  3. Jimmy Carr: The Best of Ultimate Gold Greatest Hits
  4. Dave Chapelle: Sticks & Stones
  5. Mo Gilligan: Momentum
  6. Amy Schumer: Growing
  7. Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room
  8. Ken Jeong: You Complete Me, Ho
  9. Bill Burr: Paper Tiger
  10. Simon Amstell: Set Free

Netflix does not usually release exact numbers of viewers – and certainly not with the independent scrutiny of traditional TV ratings.

The list is thought to be based on the number of UK accounts that have watched at least two minutes of a title during its first 28 days on release, with forecasts for December releases.
