Now retitled Four Kids And It

Russell Brand is to star in a movie adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson's bestselling children’s book Four Children And It.

And in a nod to the American market, the film is being retitled Four Kids And It.

Brand joins the previously announced Michael Caine and Matthew Goode (who recently played  Lord Snowdon in The Crown) and new cast member Paula Patton, from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Goode and Patton play a new couple who bring their  children on a  beach holiday designed to bond the potential future step-siblings. There they stumble across a Psammead  – a magical, grumpy creature – called It, to be voiced by Caine.

Brand plays the oddball villain Tristan, intent on capturing the creature for his own gain. Bill Nighy was previously cast in the role, but has been replaced by the comic.

Director Andy De Emmony has just started shooting the film in Ireland.

Brand will next be seen in the upcoming season of HBO series Baller, starring Dwayne Johnson as a retired NFL player.

Wilson’s book was itself inspired by E. Nesbit’s 1902 novel Five Children And It.
