Shooting starts on The Dry series 3
Recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan is back
Filming has begun on the third and final series of ITV’s comedy-drama The Dry, starring Róisín Gallagher as recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan.
The last series, which aired in March last year, ended with the character holding the seams of her dysfunctional family together, and leaving her ex-boyfriend to board a plane to Melbourne by himself.
And in the new eight-part series, Shiv now meets Daryl, a handsome and mysterious Australian stranger, played by Rick Donald, who seemingly develops a fixation with her, turning up out of the blue at a recovery meeting.
Writer Nancy Harris says: ‘It has been a true joy to see audiences embrace the Sheridan family in all their dysfunctional glory and I am so grateful to have gotten to tell this story over three seasons.
‘The third and final season aims to go deeper than ever before, really getting under the skin of Shiv and the family in a way that we hope is both surprising, funny and (painfully) honest."
The half-hour episodes are a co-production with Ireland’s RTE and is being shot by programme-makers Element Pictures in Dublin, directed by Paddy Breathnach.
Nana Hughes, head of scripted Comedy at ITV said: ‘Nancy Harris' scripts will make you laugh and may well make you cry....I did both just reading them. Nancy's award winning writing delivers more of the chaotic mess that is the Sheridan family. I can't wait to see what Paddy and the cast will bring to the finale of this wonderful show."
Dermot Horan of RTE added: ‘The third and final series will invite our viewers into the tumultuous, emotional and unpredictable world of the Sheridan family for one last time. Nancy Harris' scripts are at times funny, and at times tragic and that is why we all feel we can relate to these memorable characters.’
