Is this Sacha Baron Cohen's new project?

New clues drop

American cable company Showtime is teasing a comedy show that's 'perhaps the most dangerous show in the history of television' – prompting rumours that it is a new Sacha Baron Cohen series.

The Borat and Bruno star himself posted a teaser message on July 4, featuring real footage of Donald Trump attacking him, followed by the caption: 'He's back. As you've never seen him before.'

Meanwhile, Showtime is plugging a show it can say nothing about, even though it launches on July 15.

A trailer features only a black screen and the words voiced by an actor: 'We'd like to you about a new comedy that's coming but we can't

'The creators won't let us show you a scene, the lawyers won't let us tell you the name of the star, and we can't ever reveal the show's title or we'd be breaking our non-disclosure agreement.

'So how do we promote perhaps the most dangerous show in the history of television when we're not allowed to show it? Something huge is coming.'

A second teaser links it to other programmes, saying: 'If you think Frank Gallagher is Shameless, Dexter is cold-blooded, and Carrie is unhinged. Just wait for July 15.'

According to Variety, Sacha Cohen is in talks with the broadcaster, but reported that details are 'sketchy'

'It's believed that at least one or two episodes have already been produced or at least roughly assembled,' the Hollywood trade website said.

Currently the July 15 schedule for Showtime includes the new episode of My Cartoon President at 10.30pm sandwiched between two repeat showings of the same episodes of single mum sitcom Smilf, which originally aired in November. One or both of which could be switched out for the mystery new programme.

It has previously been reported that Baron Cohen was involved in a project called Greed, about the lavish lifestyles of the super rich. Directed by The Trip's Michael Winterbottom, it revolves around a cut-throat retail billionaire said to be based on disgraced BhS tycoon Philip Green.

In February, it was reported that Baron Cohen paid convicted armed robber OJ Simpson £15,000 to lure him to a hotel room a prank for an undisclosed new project, not believed to be Greed.

Here's the video he posted on Independence Day, featuring comments Trump made in 2012, after the comic tipped an urn supposedly containing the ashes of Kim Jong Il over Ryan Seacrest at the Oscars, for a publicity stunt to promote his film The Dictator
