Killing Eve thriller from Fleabag creator

Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new thriller is coming to the BBC.

The eight-part series Killing Eve will premiere in a prime-time slot on BBC One and then be available as a box set on iPlayer.

Waller-Bridge is writing and executive producing the show in the US, but does not have a lead role.

Casting has also been announced with Sandra Oh from Grey’s Anatomy playing Eve, a bored MI5 security officer whose desk job does not fulfil her fantasies of being a spy. Jodie Comer from Doctor Foster is Villanelle, a fearsome assassin Eve is tasked with tracking down

The ensemble cast also includes Fiona Shaw, David Haig, Kim Bodnia, Darren Boyd, Sean Delaney, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Owen McDonnell.

Sue Deeks, the BBC’s head of programme acquisition, says: "Killing Eve is a startlingly original thriller. In turn both laugh-out-loud funny and edge-of-your-seat gripping, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has filled her new series with an array of wonderful characters brought to life by a dream cast.’

The BBC bought the show from  Endeavor Content, whose head of sales Gary Marenzi said: ‘We’re proud to be championing incredible creatives like Phoebe, Sandra and Jodie, and bringing a fresh female-fronted project to a UK audience.’

The show is based on the Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings and is produced by Sid Gentle Films.
