Three more years of Mrs Brown's Boys

BBC deal keeps sitcom on air until Christmas 2020

The BBC has ordered six more Christmas episodes of Mrs Brown’s Boys.

It means two special episodes every year until 2020.

Creator Brendan O’Carroll broke the news at the National Television Awards, telling the Mirror: ‘The BBC have ordered two Christmas specials a year up to 2020.’

The Corporation confirmed the news to Chortle.

After winning best comedy at the ceremony, O’Carroll also spoke of his new live Saturday-night entertainment show All Round To Mrs Brown’s.

‘It’s kind of a hybrid show, it will be presented from the house,’ he said. ‘Mrs Brown will have interaction with the audience and we have a craic there.’ One element will feature Mrs Brown interviewing the mother of their special guest.

The last Christmas Day edition of Mrs Brown’s Boys attracted 6.13m viewers, with the New Year’s Day episode winning 6.7 million.

The show was also last year named the best sitcom of the 21st century in a Radio Times poll.
