Raised By Wolves USA picked up for pilot

ABC remakes Caitlin Moran’s C4 show

The American remake of Raised By Wolves has moved a major step closer to the screen.

ABC network executives have ordered a pilot episode to be shot, from a script Juno writer Diablo Cody based on Caroline and Caitlin Moran’s Channel 4 show.

The original – based on the sisters’ upbringing in the West Midlands – was dropped last year after two seasons, and a crowdfunding campaign to raise £320,000 to make one more episode fell short of its target.

ABC’s version retains the Raised By Wolves title, even though the subtle nod to Wolverhampton is now lost as the US show will be set in a Midwestern town.

Rebekah Staton’s central character of Della Garry, struggling to raise five mouthy kids on a shoestring, has been renamed Sheila Gable, although there is no news of casting yet.

Oscar-winner  Cody, who is also producing, drew on her own Middle American upbringing to adapt the comedy, with Caitlin Moran offering advice.

The half-hour pilot has been commissioned from Berlanti Productions, which bought the rights from British production house Big Talk, Hollywood website Deadline reports.

ABC had previously commissioned the pilot script from Cody, who also co-created Tig Noraro’s acclaimed Amazon series One Mississippi.
