Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em... again

Frank Spencer revived after 38 years

Michael Crawford is to play Frank Spencer again – 38 years after the last Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em.

The one-off special will be made for Sport Relief and reunites the actor with his on-screen wife Michele Dotrice, who plays Betty. She said it would be an ‘absolute joy to be reunited again with Frank [for] such a wonderful cause.’

The special episode will also feature an appearance from Olympic cycling hero Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em last aired on Christmas Day in 1978, before Crawford moved on to an illustrious career in musical theatre.

He said he was ‘thrilled and delighted to have been asked to bring Frank back’ – though at 74 it’s unlikely his mishaps will be quite so acrobatic as the original series.

Last year it had been mooted that Some Mothers would join the other BBC back-catalogue comedies being revived  for a ‘landmark sitcom season’ later this year.

Instead, this special will air on  Sport Relief Night  on BBC One on  March 18.
