UNSPEAKABLE: Phil Wang and Susie Dent challenge guests to invent new words for a new ultimate dictionary. The guests are Jon Culshaw, Mark Steel and Anna Thomas. Radio 4, 6:30pm.

TWENTY YEARS OF NOT GOING OUT: Lee Mack talks about the creative process behind his long-running sitcom in a documentary that includes classic clips and behind-the-scenes footage from the new series. BBC One, 9pm.

NOT GOING OUT: And keeping the 20th birthday theme going, the first episode of the new theme see Lee and Lucy reluctantly host such a party for their goddaughter. BBC One, 9:30pm.

BROTHERS: Reprising their True Detective partnership. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson play versions of themselves – great pals who learn that they might actually be brothers. Apple TV

OMID DJALILI: NAMASTE: Omid Djalili fronts a topical stand-up show that mixes his stand-up with chats with comedy pals. Each week explores a different zeitgeisty theme, with the aim of cutting through the noise on complicated global issues. Radio 4, 6:30pm.

Friday September 25

REWIND THE FRINGE: NextUp is running a three-day catch-up, enabling comedy fans to stream shows from the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe, all on demand. Fourteen shows are on offer from the likes of Rosco McClelland, Sam Eley, Felicity Ward, Rachel Fairburn and Stuart Laws. It's £40 for the weekend, while an annual membership to all the stand-up NextUp offers – which is quite a lot – is £80.

THE NEWS QUIZ: This week's panellists are Rachel Fairburn, Desiree Burch, Robin Morgan and The Times columnins Cindy Yu. Radio 4, 6:30pm.

PLAY FOR TODAY: WILD: One-off survival comedy drama set in the Scottish Highlands, in which three old friends on their annual wild camping trip get lost and start to fall out. It stars Daniel Mays, Amit Shah and Joel Fry. Channel 5, 9pm.
