JEREMY CLARKSON is to host the first episode of Have I Got News For You when it returns for a new series on October 2. It is his first job with the BBC since losing his Top Gear position after his assault on producer Oisin Tymon in March. He had previously been due to appear on the satirical show in April, but pulled out.

BRITISH comedy duo Jack And Dean – who have more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers – have been named one of 12 Hollywood 'ones to watch' by America's People magazine. The pair have already collaborated with Amy Schumer on this video and are planning a long-form web series.

SCOTTISH comic Craig Ferguson is to make a 16-part debate show Join Or Die for the History channel in the US. The series involves historians and celebrities discussing questions such as what was the biggest presidential campaign flop; who was the greatest founding father; or which invention was history's greatest game-changer. Ferguson said: 'I promise we will have a lot of fun but we will also stick to the truth.'

AMERICAN restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings has pulled the ads featuring Steve Rannazzisi in the wake of revelations that his oft-repeated story about working in New York's World Trade Centre when it was destroyed by terrorists on September 11, 2001 was false.

MEGAN FOX is to star in the next series of US sitcom New Girl, replacing Zooey Deschanel as she goes on maternity leave. The Transformers beauty will play a sales rep who rents out the room vacated by Deschanel's character Jess, who is sequestered on jury duty. The show is screened on E4 in the UK.
