How Inside No 9 made Jack Whitehall sick

The rigours of filming...

Sometimes their gruesome comedy can be stomach-churning, but Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton literally made Jack Whitehall sick on the set of Inside No 9.

The young stand-up makes a guest appearance in the opening episode of the new series, playing a backpacker who gatecrashes a sleeping carriage on a French overnight train.

And to create the illusion of movement, the set was built on car springs, with an assistant director 'manfully bouncing it about' to create the illusion of movement.

It proved effective, as Whitehall got genuinely travel sick.

'He threw up on the first day,' producer Adam Tandy reveals. 'Embarrassing!'

The confession came at a press conference to launch the second series of the comic anthology, which starts on BBC Two on March 26

At the event, Shearsmith and Pemberton also discussed the expectations to deliver a twist in their tales, the demands of directing as well as writing and acting, and how they are bucking TV trends. Read a full report of the event here
