THE final episode of Miranda attracted 7.3million viewers to BBC One last night – but was beaten in the ratings by Mrs Browns Boys, which was seen by 7.9million.

THE funeral of North East comedian, Mike 'The Mouth' Elliott is taking place in North Shields this morning. The Sunderland-born comedian, also known as a radio host and for appearances in Byker Grove and Billy Elliott died last Tuesday at the age of 68 after suffering cancer of the oesophagus.

ADRIAN EDMONDSON is to appear in a new BBC adaptation of Tolstoy's epic War And Peace. The former Young Ones star, now 56, will play Count Ilya Rostov in the six-part series, being shot in Russia, Lithuania and Latvia from next month.

BOBBY CARROLL has won Chortle's £100 prize for the best Correspondents article in December for his piece about censorship in 2014.

LONDON's City Academy is running some free comedy workshops on Saturday week (January 10). Kate Smurthwaite will be hosting a stand-up session at 11.40am, followed by Declan Hill and Simon Wright on sitcom writing workshop at 12:25pm.
