Frank Skinner has won the Radio Academy Award for best speech programme for his Absolute Radio show. Judges said the Saturday morning programme contained ‘great story-telling, some stand-out moments of humour and a down-to-earth quality not easily achieved’.

A NEW BATCH of comics, including Rhys Darby, Shaun Micallef, Sam Simmons and Jimeoin have joined the cast of Australian comedy series It’s A Date for its second series. Each episode of the ABC show features a couple of dates and has previously starred Ross Noble. Also returning for series two are Celia Pacquola, Lawrence Mooney and Ronnie Chieng.

EDDIE IZZARD is to headline a new two-day comedy festival being staged in Southsea on July 31 and August 1. He will be playing a 2,000-seat marquee on the Dorset town’s common. No other names have yet been announced.

US SITCOM Modern Family is to feature a gay wedding, with the marriage of long-term partners, Mitchell and Cameron. To celebrate the episode, the ABC network surprised gay couples who were getting married at New York’s City Hall on Monday by paying their marriage licence fees.
