Still Game 'set for a comeback'

And the rumours are it's for the stage

Scottish comics Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill are set to put their feud behind them – and bring back Still Game.

Journalists were yesterday sent an invitation from the duo to attend a ‘very special announcement’ regarding the sitcom in Glasgow next Wednesday.

It added: ‘For the first time in six years, Ford and Greg will be reunited with Paul Riley (Winston), Jane Mccarry (Isa), Sanjeev Kohli (Navid) and Gavin Mitchell (Boabby), as they announce details of the hit show’s exciting new venture’.

The invitation sparked speculation that the pair would be reviving their characters Jack and Victor for a live production. But everyone connected to the show remained tight-lipped with Kohli saying: ‘My lips are sealed, but the news is good.’

Still Game started on stage, with a show at Glasgow’s Cottiers Theatre which became a DVD hit in 1999 before the BBC turned it into a sitcom. In total, 44 episodes were broadcast over six series, two Christmas specials and two Hogmanay specials between 2002 and 2007.

Kiernan and Hemphill, who also co-wrote Chewin’ the Fat, decided to go their separate way in 2008, in a split that was not thought to be amicable, despite their long friendship.

In February, Kiernan expressed a wish to do more with Still Game, saying: ‘I still have an enormous fondness for it and have always said it’s not dead. It’s just parked.’

Earlier this year, a cast of unknowns from the Sonic Boom Theatre Company put on an authorised stage version of the sitcom at Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre.
