Revealed: Alan Partridge movie plot

(Or at least some of it)

Armando Iannucci has revealed some of the plot of the new Alan Partridge movie.

The storyline will involve the hapless DJ waging war with a media giant who takes over North Norfolk Digital, the local radio station where he works.

Speaking at a screening of his new political comedy, Veep, Iannucci said: ‘Alan is in Norwich. It's not “Alan goes to Hollywood”; it's not “Alan invaded by aliens” or anything like that.

‘He's on North Norfolk Digital, which is taken over by a bigger media conglomerate and has it's name changed to Shape. And that kicks everything off.’

Some commentators have been quick to draw parallels with star Steve Coogan’s own battles with Rupert Murdoch’s News International. Earlier this year he settled his legal action against the company for phone hacking, but continues to be a vocal opponent of what he sees as media intrusion.

Iannucci said the film’s script was being finalised and it would go into production in about six months’ time.
