Vegas walkout

Fans disgruntled at DVD recording

Fans walked out of Johnny Vegas’s DVD recording, complaining about his ‘rambling’ routines and the poor quality of the sound.

Perhaps unaware of the nature of Vegas’s act, one audience member moaned: ‘He just launched into a series of rambling stories which got worse and worse.’

Vegas recorded the stand-up show at the Benidorm Palace in Spain, a venue more used to housing all-singing, all-dancing cabaret spectaculars than self-pitying alternative comedians such as Vegas.

Sue and Paul Adams, who run a bar on the Costa Blanca were among those who said they were ‘sorely disappointed’ with the show.

Vegas recorded two performances in Benidorm, one on Sunday and one last night, each in front of about 1,000 punters. On stage yesterday, he admitted that the first show was ‘painful’ but said he was happy with the second.

However, problems with the sound remained. Audience member David Gutteridge Twitterred last night: ‘Suffering sound quality issues, plus he looks a bit “lubricated”. Audience is enjoying it anyway.

He added that the gig was blighted by hecklers, with a ‘bloke behind me [who] thinks it’s funny to keep shouting “Monkey” after every gag’.

Johnny’s agent admitted that ‘about a dozen’ people complained they couldn’t hear, and were offered free drinks and tickets to another show.

But she added: ‘Overall, the crowd were amazing and really loved the show. Johnny was just being Johnny.’
