It's all right for Scum

Ad agency sitcom gets second pilot

An advertising agency sitcom that piloted on BBC Three last year is to have another shot at being made into a series – with BBC Two ordering a second pilot.

Several changes are being made to the new version of The Scum Also Rises, including the casting of former 11 O'Clock Show host Iain Lee in a major role.

The part of the boss, played by Chris Barrie in the original, has also been rewritten for Green Wing star Pippa Heywood.

And the comedy is changing from a realistic single-camera production to a more traditional studio sitcom.

Iain Morris, of production company Bwark, told trade journal Broadcast: ‘Last year's episode was slightly rushed and single cam, whereas Jonathan [Thake, the writer] always wanted it to be studio.’

Thake drew on his experiences as a former marketing executive for the script, which was originally aired as part of a series of six comedy pilots broadcast on BBC Three last summer.

It stars Kevin Bishop, Adam Buxton and Daisy Haggard as advertising executives.

The sitcom will be recorded at BBC TV Centre next Friday – see our free tickets page to be in the studio audience.
