As does Smoggie Queens star Mark Benton

Saturday Night Live UK cast member Freddie Meredith and  Smoggie Queens star Mark Benton are joining the next series of Mammoth.

Mike Bubbins returns as the titular PE teacher, accidentally frozen in 1979 and thawed out in the present day, in five new episodes airing on the BBC early next year.

Meredith joins as Lucas, an agent who lures Tony Mammoth into the celebrity world, while Benton plays Roy, the character's fellow teacher and new best mate.

Also joining the cast is Tip Toe actor Elizabeth Berrington as Jo, a no-nonsense police officer and love interest.

Series three of the comedy, set and filmed in and around Cardiff, also features Bubbins’ character taking on the council in court over his home spa and an unscheduled school trip to the Wimbledon’s men’s semi-final that goes awry.

Returning for series three are Sian Gibson as Mammoth’s daughter Mel, Joel Davidson as her son Theo, and Fresh Prince Of Bel Air’s Joseph Marcell as Mammoth’s long-suffering friend Roger.

The Fox network is working on a US remake, overseen by Modern Family’s Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker, to air in the 2027-28 season,
