C4 renews Friday Night Project

Channel 4 has recommissioned The Friday Night Project, its entertainment show fronted by comics Jimmy Carr and Rob Rouse.

Head of entertainment Andrew Newman has ordered a second series of eight hour-long shows from independent producers Princess.

The shows will air early next year, according to trade paper Broadcast.

The first series, which aired in February and March, attracted audiences of around 1.5 million, a respectable 10 per cent or so of the available viewers.

Carr and Rouse were joined by a different guest host each week, as well as regulars Sharon Horgan and Lucy Montgomery.

Channel 4 has tried several comedy programmes to fill the Friday-night void following the end of US sitcom Friends, including Johnny Vegas's 18 Stone of Idiot and Chris Morris’s flop Nathan Barley.
