Friends snubbed

Frasier and Sex are Emmy stars

The final series of Frasier and Sex And The City have been hailed at this year’s Emmy awards.

But Friends was snubbed – picking up no awards.

Counting previously announced creative arts Emmys, Frasier collected six awards, making it the second most decorated show after Al Pacino’s Aids drama Angels In America.

Stars Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce were named best actor and supporting actor in a comedy series respectively.

Collecting his statuette, Pierce said: “They say comedy in television is changing. When they change it back, call me."

Grammer said: "I had the most extraordinary life on television. Frasier was a gift in my life and the people that I got to meet and work with were the greatest and this is just the cherry on top."

Sarah Jessica Parker took best comedy actress for  Sex And The City, with co-star Cynthia Nixon taking home the best supporting actress for her role as Miranda.

The low-rated, but critically acclaimed, Arrested Development took the prize for best comedy series, best director and best writer.

It has been picked up for BBC2 and BBC4 later this year.

In the separate category for variety, music or comedy programmes, awards for best show and best writing went to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
