Stephen Grant looks at life hacks in new TV series

Comedian Stephen Grant has landed his ‘dream job’ fronting a new pop-science TV show.

How Hacks Work is being made for Viasat – a broadcaster that targets the Nordic and Baltic countries – and promise to examine ‘the best, worst and weirdest ways to solve everyday issues using unusual items or ideas’

Using footage from YouTubers and the viewing public, the program features a panel of comedians and scientists who deconstruct ‘How To…’ videos from around the world.

Thirty half-hour shows are being made, and posting on Facebook, Grant said: ‘Already I've blowtorched gunpowder, malleted nitroglycerine, started a chemical bonfire, walked away from a petrol explosion and had sulphuric acid rinsed off my face (note: it stings). And we've still got 28 episodes to go.

‘I don't know if it's going to be huge, but it's absolutely huge for me, and it's a dream job. I am, quite literally, delighted.’

Grant, who spends most weekends compering the Komedia club in Brighton, co-presents the show with pyrotechnics expert Mike Sansom

Derren Lawford, the creative director of producers Woodcut Media, said: ‘How Hacks Work promises to feature some of the wackiest, smartest, funniest ways to solve everyday problems, one life hack at a time.’

Each episode will cover a specific theme including cooking, technology, cars, sport, health and DIY.

The series is currently in production and will air on Viasat Explore, which reaches 87 countries, next year.
