Rosie Jones assaulted by 'homophobic, ableist' thugs
She and fellow comic Lee Peart targeted on train home from a gig
Comedians Rosie Jones and Lee Peart were attacked by 'ableist and homophobic' morons on their train home from a gig last night.
The comics revealed the incident on social media, with Jones telling how three people mocked her and Peart before throwing a bottle of wine at them.
She wrote: ‘They mocked our voices, shouted slurs at us and even threw a wine bottle (plastic, thankfully).
’It was a stark reminder that my [cerebral palsy] makes me stand out, and is often used as a weapon against me. Unfortunately the worms of this world use my disability to try and make me feel like a victim. I am not.
'People with cerebral palsy should never be made to feel like guests in an unwelcoming and hostile world which wasn’t set up for people like us. We have just as much of a right to be here as anybody else. AND DON’T FORGET IT.’
Peart – who, like Jones, is gay – posted a video on Instagram from the train saying: 'Here I am with one of my favourite people and look...'
He then panned his camera to show stains of red wine against the train wall, saying it was the result of the attack from ‘ableist and homophobic arseholes’.
Jones then said: 'Three people mocked both of our voices, threw wine at me… What a fucking waste!'
Peart then said: 'This is the reality we are getting to now in this country where it's like, "what's going on?"’
He later thanked fans for their support and said that the British Transport Police were ‘wonderful’ in their response to the attack.
• Jones is hosting a big charity benefit to raise funds for her charity foundation at the Soho Theatre Walthamstow on November 4. The line-up includes: Rosie, Katherine Ryan, Nish Kumar, Jen Brister, Kerry Godliman, Ivo Graham and Flo & Joan and tickets are available here.
