Second fly-on-the-wall series for Katherine Ryan

Comedian again exposes her family life to TV viewers

Katherine Ryan is to make a second fly-on-the-wall series about her family life.

Four new episodes of At Home With Katherine Ryan will air next year, a retitled follow-up to Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance.

The series will again examine the comedian’s approach to family life with husband Bobby Kootstra and children Violet, Fred and Fenna as she tries to balance being a wife and mother with the demands of a nationwide tour.

She said: ‘My family and I are cautiously optimistic about picking up where we left off and inviting cameras back into our busy lives for more love, laughs and unconventional adventure as I embark upon a national stand-up tour with – and sometimes without – three kids in tow.’

The first episode of Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance attracted 407,000 viewers to W when it launched earlier this  year, making it one of the channel’s biggest original commissions since it moved free-to-air. The series garnered a five-star review from the i newspaper, which called it ‘truthful, painful - and very, very funny’, but just two stars from the Telegraph.

Kirsty Hanson, who commissioned the series, described it as a ‘searingly funny, intelligent and bravely honest view on what it takes to juggle life as a modern mother, wife and hugely successful comedian’.

And Ben Wicks, of programme-makers Expectation said: ‘On stage Katherine Ryan is known for having the sharpest comic mind working in Britain today. In series one we saw that sharp comic mind being on fire 24/7, focused laser-like on the most important topic of all: the family, all while juggling three kids, a very demanding career, a relatively new marriage, and a TV crew being in her house at all hours.

‘You could forgive her for not letting us back in, but we are overjoyed that she has, and given the plans for the new series, you will be too.’

At Home with Katherine Ryan will air on U&W next year.
