BBC Scotland axes Fred Macaulay show

But new comedy projects are lined up

Fred MacAulay is to be axed from his BBC Radio Scotland slot after 17 years on air.

BBC Scotland say the stand-up will remain an important part of their output with projects including a new satirical panel show, Breaking The News. He is already a regular on Radio 4’s The News Quiz.

His 10.30am to midday weekday show is to be axed as part of a new line-up unveiled by the station.

He will also host a number of radio shows from the Edinburgh Fringe and present a two-part documentary about comedy and politics.

Macaulay, who has hosted a morning show on BBC Radio Scotland since 1997 said: ‘I am looking forward to taking my radio audience with me on a new journey as I return to my comedy roots.

‘I am excited to be hosting these brand new series and working with BBC Scotland and independent production colleagues. I know how fond the MacAulay and Co audience is of the show and I know how game they’ll be for these new adventures.’

Loose Women star Kaye Adams will take over a show running from 9am to midday under the new schedules.
