Larry David assaulted Elmo on live television yesterday.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm star throttled the Muppet when he appeared on NBC’s Today show, saying:  ‘Someone had to do it.’

It came after Elmo had been speaking about his viral mental health tweet when he asked ‘How is everybody doing?’ – and the internet unloaded its collective misery. 

Host Savannah Guthrie told David he’d gone too far, but weatherman Al Roker said he wasn’t surprised by David’s actions.

David later apologised, which Elmo accepted…

He spoke about the incident later on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
