James Acaster on Late Night with Seth Meyers

Talking about a less successful appearance on American TV

James Acaster appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers  yesterday – and revealed how he had a bit of an accident after his first late-night TV appearance in America.

He appeared on Conan O’Brien’s show in 2017, performing a stand-up set ‘and it went bad’, the comic explained.

Jokingly calling Conan ‘a real piece of work’, he explained: ‘The night before I had visited a Mexican food truck in LA and I hadn't asked anyone for tips as to which truck to go to

‘And let's just say when I was on Conan’s show doing stand-up, some of my insides were trying to burst into my outsides.

‘Bear  in mind the audience didn’t know this, but I think they could sense it - no laughs, they were not on my side.

‘Within half an hour of being on the show, and I wish this was I lie, I went to a steakhouse and shit my pants.

‘I literally shit my pants. Not "I went to a steakhouse and then got scared  about what happens when this airs?"

‘Like I literally shit my pants. Like it came out of my butt and into my pants – the last place I wanted it, Seth. I wanted either it to either stay in my butt or to find a new home in a toilet, I didn’t want it in the pants I was wearing. Which, by the way, in the UK is "underwear". but in this case the shit got on both, so to be fair It was a moment that translated across the ocean.

‘And that was Conan’s fault.’

He was on the NBC show via video link to talk about his special titled Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999., which was nominated for a Critics Choice TV award last week.
