Homer Simpson interviews Conan O'Brien

As chat show host steps down

Conan O’Brien retired from his talk show last night - with an exit interview with Homer Simpson.

The segment referred to O’Brien’s first TV job, writing for the animated sitcom, creating storylines such as the monorail episode.

On learning O’Brien is a late-night host, Homer says: ‘Wow a dying breed, there’s only like 800 of you left.’

O’Brien has been a late-night host for 28 years, the last 11 on TBS,  where he has been a champion of stand-ups.

Signing off from the show, he said: ‘I have devoted all of my adult life, all of it, to pursuing this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid.

‘And there’s a lot of people that believe the two cannot co-exist, but God, I will tell you, it’s something I believe religiously.

‘I think when smart and stupid come together – it’s very difficult – but if you can make it happen I think that it’s the most beautiful thing in the world.’

He has a new deal with  HBO Max, but details have not been released.
