First trailer for Apple's football comedy Ted Lasso

With Jason Sudeikis , Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Nick Mohammed

Apple has today released the official trailer for Ted Lasso, a new comedy series from Jason Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence, that will premiere globally on Friday  August 14.

Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience of the game

The series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster and Nick Mohammed.

Saturday Night Live regular Sudeikis  developed the series with  Scrubs creator Lawrence, How I Met Your Mother story editor Joe Kelly, and Hunt, who splays a coach here.

The ten-part series is based on a character Sudeikis performed in a series of shorts for NBC Sports in 2013 and 2014 to accompany its Premier League coverage.

But the premise has a strange echo of BBC Two’s recent fish-out-of-water comedy series, The First Team, which  revolved around a player from Sporting Kansas City hired to play for a professional soccer team in England, despite having no profile.
