Richard Osman changed my career

Vittorio Angelone credits podcast shout-out as a turning point

comedyVittorio Angelone says a generous shout-out from TV mogul Richard Osman acted as a ‘light switch moment,’ to turbocharge his career.

The comic says the comment on Osman’s podcast The Rest Is Entertainment,  single-handedly bridged the gap between successful live touring and getting him noticed by TV producers.

Speaking on the Always Be Comedy podcast, the Belfast-born comedian said: ‘The great thing about The Rest Is Entertainment is the whole industry listens to that podcast," Angelone said. ‘The producers, the commissioners, everybody at every level... it’s so "inside baseball".’

Angelone said the impact was instantaneous. 'The change in the number of production companies that were interested, the meetings I could then have, and the emails my agent was getting off the back of that was crazy."

During the podcast, Osman had pondered where Angelone might fit on television, asking: ‘What TV show would you even put Vittorio on?’

Osman

Angelone responded: ‘I remember at the time thinking, "Well, I don’t know if you’ve heard of Richard Osman’s House of Games, but I think I’d like to be on that please!" Just a man who has a TV show named after him going, "A real head-scratcher, Richard!"’

And indeed he ended up as a contestant on the show in November, winning all five days over  Aimee Fuller, Ria Hebden, and Paddy McGuinness.

Angelone added that he was ‘now seeing the dividends’ with a surge in bookings and his first TV appearances following Osman’s mention
