I want to be a Jesster

Singer Jessie J's stand-up ambitions

comedyShe once recorded a song called Stand Up – and now that could be Jessie J’s next career move, too.

Speaking on Women’s Health podcast, Just As Well, she said: ‘ I would love to do comedy more. I’d love to do film. I’m obviously touring a lot next year.’

She said she hadn’t written a song for three years but said: ‘Maybe doing something that challenges me, whether it’s a book or a children’s album or comedy or Broadway or film, whatever’s going to come will come.’

Jessie, 37, has had a tough year with a cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgeries, but was emitting positive vibes when she told the podcast: ‘I just want to be happy, sane, enjoying what I do, calm, healthy, being as present as a mum as I am at work…’

Like many an aspiring comedian Jessie has spent more time talking about it, than doing it.

In 2022, she first floated the idea on Steven Bartlett’s Diary Of A CEO podcast: ‘Right now I’m in the process of trying to create a one-woman show which is a combination of the things that I love the most which is therapy and talking and honesty and emotions and standing in the middle them and feeling the storm and the joy and the sunshine and the rain.  And singing… and making people laugh. And combining those three things.’

And at an International Women’s Month event in March this year she said: ‘I actually genuinely want to do stand-up. I love making people laugh — and cry. I just love feeling things. So yeah, I do want to do comedy.’
