Meet Jeffrey Epstein, the stand-up comedian

US comic has an unfortunate name

comedyJeffrey Epstein has become a stand-up comedian.

Dying in New York jail cell more than six years ago would be something of a barrier for the financier’s comedy career – although being a paedophile rapist isn’t always a red line, as history has sadly shown.

But this Jeffrey Epstein is a 56-year business owner from Portland, Oregon, who’s trying to turn his ‘unfortunate’ name into a comedic asset.

Some of his material revolves around getting out jury service after they deemed his name ‘a distraction from justice’, joking that his pronouns are ‘Not/Him’ and how there are more than 100 other people with his name… a number that’s unlikely to grow.

The comic has been learning his craft under the radar for a number of years – including a gig at London’s Top Secret Comedy Club – but has now launched an Instagram channel to make himself better-known.

In one offstage video that has been seen 4.2million times he introduces himself by saying: My name is Jeffrey Epstein – really that is my birth name –and obviously has been quite an unfortunate name to have these last 10 years.

‘And yes, I know I could have changed my name, but I didn’t. I decided to stick it out and become a stand-up comedian instead.

‘Making fun of my reality of sharing a birth name with a notorious criminal who just can’t stay out of the news.

‘I’ve kept on the down low, haven’t posted any of the material on social media and saved it for live, in-person shows these last few years. But the people and Congress have spoken and they are demanding the release of the Epstein comedy – so stay tuned.’
