comedyHe’s a comedian, writer, presenter, artist, campaigner… and now designer of beer cans.

Joe Lycett worked with with London-based LGBTQ+ brewery Queer Brewing on a  a pale ale to celebrate the community Pride event he set up in his Birmingham neighbourhood four years ago.

They launched Rainbow Juice to coincide with Queens Heath Pride, which took place at the weekend, with the stand-up designing the label.

He said: ‘I was delighted to help with the artwork for this delicious juicy pale in support of [trans charity] Not A Phase and Queens Heath Pride from my second favourite brewery—the first being whoever brews Skol.’

Queens Heath Pride began in 2021 when Lycett renamed the district of Kings Heath in response to local homophobic protests. His work on establishing the world’s smallest pride march became part of his 2022 stand-up show More, More, More! How Do You Lycett? How Do You Lycett?

Since 2022, Queer Brewing have released a collaboration with Queens Heath Pride and local pub The Juke, but this year’s release is the first official collaboration with Lycett

Ten pence from every can goes to Not A Phase,  with another 50p from each can sold via Queer Brewing’s website donated to Queens Heath Pride.

Lily Waite-Marsden, founder of Queer Brewing, said: ‘We’ve loved working with Queens Heath Pride for the last four years, and were thrilled when we were first approached to work together,

‘When Joe suggested we use one of his gorgeous paintings for the label, we immediately agreed: I’ve loved his work for years and have been hoping to use one of his paintings for a collab for a long time.

‘We’re delighted to have Joe officially on board for this year’s beer as the whole team are big fans of his varied work and the amazing grassroots community spirit he’s fostered in creating Queens Heath Pride.’

Rainbow Juice is a 4.7 per cent pale ale hopped with Luminosa, with tasting notes saying it has aromas of peach lemonade and mango.
