Well, it was a comedy about Heated Rivalry...

For any queer person, choosing the right moment to come out to a parent is a big decision. 

And for one woman, that was in the middle of an Edinburgh Fringe comedy show.

At one point in Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody, the performers ask every straight woman to stand up. One woman did just that and motioned to her daughter to do the same - but the younger woman just looked at her and shook her head.

Performer Andrew Young said: ‘With a show like ours you want to bring joy and laughter and to give people a playful escape. But to have someone feel safe enough to be true to themselves in front of a parent, because of a moment in our show, is something I could have never even contemplated.  I started crying on the walk home. It was overwhelming.’

And to commemorate the moment, the daughter even got a banana tattoo on her arm, in reference to a joke in the show.

Her big revelation came during a song called  LGBTQIALLY, which the producers of the Gilded Balloon show say is ‘about allies helping people come out of the closet’ – so, job done!
